Add a Physical Product

You'll need to add a physical product if you're planning to sell any kind of material goods in your store. There are just a few simple steps to adding a basic product, and we'll go over them here. To get started, go to Store > Products, and click Add Product.

Note: If you prefer, you can import product information from a CSV file. This is handy if you have a large number of products to add and want to save time.

First, you'll set up the basics: the product title and description, price (and optionally, sale price - though you can set a sale price at any time by editing the product), and an image of the product.

Note: The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) prohibits misleading "former price comparisons." If you advertise or promote item(s) at a discounted price, it’s your responsibility to ensure you’re meeting the FTC’s guidelines. We recommend you reach out to a legal expert if you have questions about the FTC’s guidelines.

Wondering what the "Hide product from published site" option is for? Checking that box means the product will not be displayed in any categories but will still be available via search. It's useful if you want to sell something but don't want shoppers to find it by browsing your site.

Next, enter the product SKU or ID if you have one (or leave it blank if you don't), then add the weight for shipping, and decide whether to charge sales tax.

Note: If you're using real time shipping, you must enter a weight for your products.

If your product is one-of-a-kind or limited in quantity, you can check the "Track inventory" box to enter the number you have available. This will decrease with each item sold, so you don't need to worry about over-selling.

Scroll down and click Choose Categories to place the product in one or more categories. You can also add product options here if you're selling an item that comes in different sizes or colors, for example. Check out our article to learn more about adding products with options.

The last step is to set up a title and description that will be shown in search engine results. Don't worry if you aren't sure what to put here - we'll automatically use the product title and description you entered above if you leave these blank.

When you’re done, click the Save button, or click Save and View to see how the product page looks. If you need to make changes at any time, click on the product from Store > Products to edit.
